Uma

Laptop

Uma is my Dell XPS M1210 laptop purchased in September 2006. Other than (crappy) work laptops, it's the first laptop I've had since I bought Parvati nine years ago. Since it's mainly used for travel, I wanted a small laptop, but I still wanted a powerful machine, and the Dell is about the only option out there. I'm really happy with it. It's the perfect size to carry around, the battery life is very good, the WiFi works great, and it has enough power for moderate gaming. It runs Quake 4 fairly well at low resolution, and it does well on Half-Life 2 also.

Uma is another name for Parvati, Shiva's consort in Hinduism. The name can have various meanings; check out this page for more details.

Accessories

I love the Case Logic laptop sleeve. I can throw the sleeved laptop in a bag or carry-on suitcase and not worry about scratches or bumps, and the outer pocket holds lots of accessories, including an external hard drive. The 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died after about 3.5 years, but the 9-cell was used less frequently so it's still working fine.
